MANOP MEEJAMRAT -- DIRECTOR/CHOREOGRAPHER

        Manop Meejamrat is a classical Thai dance master as well as an internationally renowned modern dancer, choreographer, and director. He began his career with the Patravadi Theatre in 1992. Manop is trained in ballet (Boishoi Bellet, Grand Ballet Canada), modern dance (Langara College, Canada), Japanese Butoh (Katsura Kang), Javanese Dance (S.T.S.I institution, Indonesia), choreography (Langara College, Canada), Stenography (Thamasat University), acrobatics (Claude Saint Dizer from Paris Studio, France), acting & directing (Patravadi Mejudhon), Jazz dance (Bob Fosse, New York) and he studied Thai classical dance with two Khon Masters -- Master Rakop Pothivech (National Artist) and Master Theerayuth Yongsri.

        On 29 November 2001, Manop received the honor of leading the “Wai-Kru” ceremony, a ritual for paying respect to performing art teachers, both spiritual and human. Now, he is an artistic director of the Patravadi Theatre at Ratchburi. Manop has received various awards for his excellent performances such as the 1997 “Excellence Award” from the Patravadi Theatre, the 2005 “Silapathorn” National Award for Contemporary Performing Artists from the Thai Ministry of Culture.

        He has joined the Patravadi Theatre in productions such as Singhakripop: tale from the temple, Juree In Concert , Rock Opera InauwJoraka, Ngopa, Kong-kaw-noi (Contemporary Butoh), Ramayana: Sahatsadecha, Buddhist Bible 1, Potchaman, The Rainbow Musical, Buddhist Bible 2, Term Rak Hai Tem Rung, TOAM’ a television series, and Buddhist Bible 5: Eclipse. He has participated in international workshops such as: Thai Performing Arts Workshop in Berlin, Germany, The Lecture and Workshop series: The difference between Thai and Western Performing Artists in Tallinn, Estonia, Hong Kong, and Singapore, the Thai Performing Arts Lecture and Demonstration at Tokyo University and the University of Denmark.

        Manop has been in many international performances, namely: ‘Lord Stressful’, a Contemporary Khon Performance (Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, Italy and France), All About Basic (International Arts Festival in Estonia, Hong Kong, and Singapore), The Sound of Siam (Spain, Japan and Estonia), Images of Asia (Denmark), Blood on the Cat’s Neck (New York), and The Ramayana : Sahatsadecha at Biennale de la Danse (Lyon, France). He Assistant directed ‘Realizing Rama’, Asian Arts Collaboration Project (Hanoi, Vietnam and a ‘Return’ Solo performance at Berlin, Germany)
